14th Chervona Kalyna Brigade Patch – National Guard of Ukraine

This embroidered patch represents the 14th Operational Brigade "Chervona Kalyna" of the National Guard of Ukraine. The brigade traces its roots to the former Jaguar Special Purpose Regiment and has served extensively in the defence of Ukraine since 2014, including during the full-scale invasion.

The patch features the brigade's emblem, the Red Viburnum (Kalyna), one of Ukraine's most enduring national symbols representing resilience, sacrifice and the homeland.

Provenance: This patch was kindly donated to Ukraine UK Aid CIC by one of our supporters. It was originally obtained through the Ukrainian volunteer organisation Dzyga's Paw, who advised that it came from the brigade itself. While we cannot independently verify its exact journey, it has been donated in good faith to help raise funds for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Dzyga's Paw (Дзиґа's Paw) is a well-known Ukrainian volunteer organisation that raises funds for the Armed Forces by producing and selling patches, artwork and other military-themed items. They often receive genuine insignia, signed flags and other items directly from the units they support

This patch belongs to the 14th Operational Brigade "Chervona Kalyna" of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU).

The brigade has a long history:

  • Originally formed in 1994 as the 8th Special Purpose Regiment "Yahuar" (Jaguar).
  • It fought in eastern Ukraine from 2014 onwards.
  • During the full-scale invasion in 2022, it helped defend Kyiv and later fought in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
  • In 2023, as part of the "Offensive Guard" (Гвардія наступу) recruitment campaign, it was reorganised and renamed "Chervona Kalyna."
  • The text reads:

    • Top: Червона Калина (Chervona Kalyna / Red Viburnum)
    • Bottom: 14 бригада оперативного призначення (14th Operational Purpose Brigade)

The red berries and leaves in the centre are kalyna (the guelder rose or viburnum), one of Ukraine's most important national symbols. It represents resilience, sacrifice, homeland and renewal. It is also the plant celebrated in the famous patriotic song "Ой у лузі червона калина" ("Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow"), which became one of the defining songs of Ukrainian resistance after the 2022 invasion.

All proceeds from the sale will support the work of Ukraine UK Aid CIC.
