Russian 31st Guards Air Assault Brigade (VDV) Trophy Patch

The 31st VDV is an elite infantry unit at russias disposal. 
Oh and disposed they were. 
But let's wind back a bit first. 
During the war in 2014, this Unit was deployed to Crimea, where it participated in many combat engagements, notably when they bravely attacked the Crimean Parliament, while wearing stolen Ukrainian Police uniforms. This is a well documented fact.

Fast forward to 24th February 2022. Russia tries again. All signs show to the hope that Ukraine can be taken in 3 days. 
In the very first wave, the 31st VDV is airdropped at the Antonov Airport at Hostomel, deep inside Ukraine, right next to Kyiv. 
Their task was to take and hold the airport to allow for less specialized troops to be flown in. 

They were utterly annihilated. Absolute destroyed. So badly beaten, that the unit only existed on paper. 
This first engagement, and decisive victory for Ukraine threw a wrench into russias momentum. A battle for the history books. 
And from this very battle here, available for private collection - a trophy patch of 31st VDV.
