Russian Uniform-Recovered Patch — Spetsnaz-Associated Carnation & Eagle Design

A striking embroidered patch with confirmed Russian uniform provenance and a design associated with Russian special-purpose forces.

Olena has confirmed that this specific patch was recovered from a Russian uniform. The wearer’s unit and the recovery location are unknown. Its design has links to Spetsnaz insignia, although we cannot confirm that the soldier who wore it served in Spetsnaz.

The black circular patch features a crowned golden double-headed eagle, a sword and a flaming grenade. A red shield on the eagle’s chest carries a mounted figure, while an orange-red, jagged flower outline spreads behind its wings.

That flower is the distinctive detail: a stylised five-petalled carnation, associated with Russian military intelligence and special-purpose formations. The double-headed eagle appears widely in Russian military heraldry, but its combination with the carnation and flaming grenade gives this design its more specific Spetsnaz connection.

Russian patch catalogues describe a sword-bearing version as “Spetsnaz — carnation with sword.” Heraldic references also document a closely related special-purpose forces emblem holding an arrow instead of a sword. These references support the design’s association; they do not identify the original wearer’s unit. “Spetsnaz” itself is a broad term for special-purpose forces, rather than the name of one regiment.

This example shows visible wear, with substantial fraying around the orange border, loose threads and black hook-and-loop backing. Please examine both photographs for its condition.

A worn patch recovered from a Russian uniform, carrying a Spetsnaz-associated design—offered with the history we can confirm and the uncertainties clearly stated.
