The Shaka hand gesture, in which the pinky and thumb are extended while the other fingers are folded, has its origin in Hawaii, where it is associated with “hang loose” culture. The sign has been used by some American military personnel, for example Navy Seals during the Syrian war and has been adopted by Wagner at some point. During a video showing the slow execution of an alleged deserter of the Syrian army, the handsign is used several times. The Shaka hand is a popular symbol among Wagner mercenaries and was even seen worn several times by it’s leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.
This patch was recovered by third Assault brigade during May 2023 in Bakhmut and was previously part of the "Kriegszeugen" Exhibition by Agile Aid.
