When in 1991 Ukraine regained Independence and split from the USSR, many soviet special operations forces were stationed on Ukraine's territory and happily joined the newly liberated Ukraine. As Ukraine looked Ukraine looked towards the west, it's special operations forces combined soviet know-how with that of NATO.

Ukraine is very proud of it's special forces tradition. 
SSO keeps cutting into the invaders again and again, with tremendous results.
