This patch belongs to the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade (53 ОМБр) of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Named in honor of Prince Volodymyr Monomakh, the Grand Duke of Kyiv, the brigade was established in the fall of 2014 following the start of Russian aggression.
Brigade Background
Affiliation: The unit is part of the Operational Command "East".
Deployment: Historically, its permanent deployment points have been in Severodonetsk and Lysychansk within the Luhansk region.
Recent Activity: The brigade has been actively involved in major engagements of the ongoing conflict, including the defense of Avdiivka and fighting in the Lyman direction as recently as March 2026.
Motto: The inscription at the top, "ОРУЖЖЯ НЕ ЗНІМАЙТЕ" (Oruzhzhia ne znimaite), translates to "Do not take off your weapons".
Central Emblem: The patch features a blue circle containing a golden eagle, a symbol often associated with strength and vigilance in military heraldry.
Hydra and Medusa: Surrounding the central eagle is a Hydra with multiple heads and a central figure resembling Medusa. In a military context, the Hydra often represents an unstoppable force that grows stronger when challenged.
